The brief
The family needed two more rooms and did not want to give up the garden. The attic had the surface, but no light, no insulation and a floor that could not take a bed.
What we did
- Reinforced the floor joists and laid a new floating floor.
- Insulated under the roof and fitted three roof windows on the south slope.
- Kept the old brick chimney stack as a pillar, cleaned and sealed.
- A new staircase from the landing, and the wiring for the whole floor.
The family stayed in the house throughout: the work was planned around school hours, and each week’s schedule appeared on their tracking page on the Friday before.
